A mechanical self-winding watch works without batteries, unlike a quartz or solar-powered watch. Unlike a manual mechanical watch, its movement is wound by the movements of the wearer’s wrist.
To make it work, you just have to wear it and have a normal physical activity. Through a set of gears, a rotor moves up the barrel spring which actuates the various mechanical parts. The movement of the automatic watch is theoretically infinite as long as it is worn.
If your automatic watch is not worn, it stops naturally. You must then wind it manually by manipulating the crown. It also happens that wrist movements may not be sufficient to wind the movement if there is very little physical activity. This can cause the watch to malfunction or even stop automatically. In this case, you can also compensate by winding the watch manually. Make sure you also adjust the strap: if it is too loose, it will prevent optimal winding. Like all mechanical watches, an automatic watch must be regularly checked to ensure that it continues to work properly.
